Hello everybody! I’m back home from my holiday and I’ve just had one of the most glorious showers ever - after flying for 16 hours to get home (and totally missing October 31st in the process, not that we do anything for Halloween here anyway) I was feeling rather stale, so it was wonderful to close my eyes and just let the water flow over me.
As for the holiday? Yeah it was ok. Well duh, of course I had a fantastic time, but there’s nothing like a month-long holiday to make you appreciate home. It was so nice to look out of the plane and see Australian soil after 13 or so hours of darkness and water, and better still to see South Australian soil on the last leg home. I must have become used to seeing big cities like London and NYC when landing at the airports, because Adelaide looked so small in comparison (which it is!), and I wondered for a second whether that was really it. But yes, it was really it, and it was so nice to see my home town.
I took around 1000 or so photos on holiday, so that will take ages to get onto my computer, and I’ve got at least 3 loads of washing to do and a heap of sorting out of souvenirs and presents. Oh, and we bought so much chocolate it’s not funny - my carry-on bag had almost solely chocolate in it, and it was quite heavy! Most of it is for other people, but of course we did buy the odd one or two blocks for ourselves
Thankyou so much to my guest posters - I really appreciate you taking the time to write on my blog as well as your own while I was gone.
We discovered something cool when we got home. We got some surveillance cameras for our place before we left because some turd has been trespassing. The cameras record some video whenever motion is detected, but also send an email notification with a still of the scene, so we could check from overseas when something (or someone) was snooping around our place.
Of course, we got a lot of false ones, like next door’s dogs walking around their yard, or our other neighbour’s washing moving on the washing line, but check out this visitor we had:
How cool is that! See, it’s not just a stereotype - Australians really DO have kangaroos in their back yard!
Anyway, off to do more sorting and washing and sleeping and relaxing… how nice it is to be home!
Hello again!
Isn’t it interesting how we humans think?
for example, i have been really looking forward to this opportunity to guest post on Jenny’s blog, thinking of all the wonderful opportunities to write write write about any and everything, and it just so happens that my pc is down at home, and work is full on so it’s v.difficult to sneak in a post here and there… Murphy’s law methinks
Anyway, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank my fellow guest posters for paving the way for me in such illustrious fashion, I’m hardly going to be able to write anything halfway as interesting!
Thankyou, it’s been an honour sharing this opportunity with you all.
I had all these wonderful ideas, since i had the last spot on the roster, i was going to reply to all my co-posters, was going to diarise my time in the preceding weeks to my turn and summarise as a prelude to my first posting, and … oh so many things!
I find now, without the luxury of being able to ponder wistfully in front of my own pc in my own time, that a million interesting thoughts are running through my head at around 11 - 11.30pm at night… to tired to write old school, and no access to typeables…. so the thoughts wander and rattle and excite then dissipate… to who knows where? not i!!
I did decide though that i DO want to write a book one day, one day when i can sit in front of the keys without interruption, (and write far more interesting thoughts than these!) a book of my experiences told in my own POV, just because i think i’ve had my own share of extreme + mundane in varying quantities, and both have their appeal as stories told.
The mundane has been by far the winner of late, finally got my cats desexed, after the female had been in season for a week… eek, keeping them separated in an open plan town house is not easy..
Also got confirmation that they are half Burmese.. which explains alot…
They are super hyper.. and they seem to run around without gravity.. on all surfaces, floor, couch, walls, benches… ceilings!!!
They are intelligent, affectionate and enjoy company but they are not clingy at all… very gentle and very very energetic. I’ve never had Burmese (or part thereof) before but i’ve been a guest at Burmese inhabited dwellings, so i had an inkling that they had a distinctive personality.
My partner P is back on the road, new 2nd hand station wagon at the ready, still off work with pain that has now migrated to his lower back… ouch!
and …
It’s Melbourne Cup Day!
doesn’t really mean anything to me, and i don’t have the means to linky you up (i’m typing up a .txt document to upload later) so i suggest googling it, i’m sure you’d get far more interesting info that way anyway
doesn’t mean anything to anyone i work with either, but we’re all feeling the strain of various pressures atm so we’ve jumped at the chance to do something non worky for a couple of hours - yay!
plus my hero, Hayden, has organised platters to make catering a breeze, check this if you’re local (Adelaide, Sth Australia), he does a great job:
