The road we live on, let’s call it X Rd, has a road coming off it which has the same name as ours, but is called ‘crescent’ instead of ‘road’. Unfortunately, the number on X Crescent which is the same number as ours actually faces onto X Rd, even though its address is X Crescent. To illustrate this, I drew a pretty much illegible picture on my PDA. See? Isn’t it all nice and clear now.
The total bummer of this situation is we often get mail intended for them. The postie comes across our house, thinks that some silly tosser put ‘Rd’ instead of ‘Cres’, and puts the letter in our letterbox. When it first started happening we took the letters up the road a couple of times, but we got sick of doing that pretty quickly, so we just mailed it back.
Recently, we started receiving parcels meant for them. Some of them actually looked pretty cool and I thought about keeping them - the guy was receiving stuff from Cooper’s (a beer company in South Australia), and I thought he might be getting a home brew kit or something. Then one of the women there started getting mail from a college or something, and we thought it probably wouldn’t be a good thing if she didn’t get that since it might cost her a place in college. But hey, it’s not our fault that we got it and not her, so we just stuck it back in the mailbox with all the other crap. Heh.
Eventually we got sick of it, and M complained to Australia Post. We were told that the courier delivering the parcels was new and that he had been ‘berated’. Oops. I hope he didn’t get the sack or anything.
Aaaanyway, we got home from a rather mediocre day today to find some flowers on the doorstep. How lovely! Some beautiful flowers! How did they know that we had such an ordinary day? Oh. They didn’t - it’s for the sods up the road. Bugger. I have no idea what kind of flowers they were, but they looked nice. There was a card as well, and we were debating what to do with them. The envelope for the card had the florist’s details on it, so I rang them and told them about the delivery error. She apologised and said she’d pick them up and deliver them to the right house. About 10 minutes later she arrived, and she brought me these flowers to say thankyou for letting her know. They’re lovely, although I don’t know what they are
Do any of you know?
