January 2005

How is it that I’m in my 30th year of life already? I honestly don’t feel that much different from when I started at my new school in year 5. Well, physically I’m obviously a lot different that I was 19 years ago - SHIT - that was 19 years ago. Faaaark.

We had to go to work today (I hate working on my birthday!), but we set the alarm for 6:35 instead of 7:00 so that M could give me my present before we left. The alarm went off, but neither of us were terribly inclined to wake up! We dozed a bit until around 10 to 7, and then we had a shower. After our showers, I got my gift.

I have a digital camera! Yay! It was the exact model that I was going to buy, which is pretty amazing because M bought it before Christmas, and before I even started looking at digital cameras. I’d mentioned that it would be cool to have a camera, and he saw it in the window of a camera shop when we were in the city one day, and thought that it looked pretty cool. He did a lot of research, and bought it. So when I was doing all my camera research, he already had the thing! It really is quite flukey that I decided on the exact one that he found, with no help from him. Actually, I guess it’s not, because he just knows me so well that it’s scary sometimes.

I’d already decided to buy a camera with some money I received for Christmas and my birthday, but now I have to find something else to buy! I’ve decided on a fast 1 Gb SD card so that I can take video if I want to.

So I have been taking lots of photos, and have already filled the card that came with the camera, but I’ve got the SD card in my PDA, which has plenty of free space on it, so I can use that until I get my new card. It is just too cool finally having a camera!

It was another stinking hot day in Adelaide, and there are a few bushfires around. The smoke has been blown across the plains, making the view from our house very hazy. Of course I took some pictures :) I haven’t taken them off my camera yet, but when I do I might post some, depending on how well they turned out. I’ll have to take some more on a clear day to show the difference.

Tonight M and I are going to a Mexican restaurant for dinner, and then stopping by my parents’ house.

Hee hee, I’ve got a camera!

I’d forgotten that 7am even existed until my alarm rudely ripped me from my slumber this morning. I actually woke up at 6:43 and felt surprisingly awake, and didn’t think I’d fall asleep again before the alarm went off, but of course I did. And when the alarm went off, my first thought (other than cursing the ungodly hour I was awake) was, “Was it really only 17 minutes ago that I woke up before?”

It’s bizarre how time is completely skewed when you’ve been asleep. When I was sick a few months ago, I started taking a nap during the day, and whenever I woke up afterwards, it seemed as though everything I did before I had the nap was done the day before, and not that morning or whatever. It’s quite odd.

So today was spent trying to get back into the swing of work, and generally trying to remember what the hell I was doing before I went on holidays. I also had to move offices again, so that took up some time. I’m a bit apprehensive about the project I’m working on at the moment, but hopefully it will work out all right.

It sucks going back to work after the holidays - it’s as if the holidays never happened, and you think that you may as well not have had a break. Aren’t I a happy ball of sunshine!

I think that the songs “Rumours” by Lindsay Lohan and “My Prerogative” by Britney are really similar. The first time I heard the LL song, I thought it was Britney, and was quite surprised when I found out who it was. Subsequent times I’ve heard it, I thought it was the Britney song, and thought that they’d probably sound ok superimposed on each other. So when the Britney song came on the radio the next time I was in the car (by myself), I started singing the LL song over the top when the chorus came on. And they do go together. It’s bizarre - they’re pretty much about the same thing (from what I can gather), with harmonising melodies.

Obviously I don’t have much going on in my life right now.

First FallsHolidays are almost over - I have to go back to work on Monday. They always seem to go so fast, and then it’s work again - another year starting again. It’s kind of weird.

I had a great day today. A friend came over, and she, M and I went for a walk in Morialta Conservation Park. We did the easiest walk there, which was really nice, and took us to First Falls (there are 3 altogether). I’ve put in a picture of it, kindly borrowed from the Morialta site. We sat down on a rock near the falls and it was just beautiful. We’re going to go on one of the more strenuous walks next time, when we’re better prepared. I was sure there was a kiosk there, but it turned out there wasn’t, so we were starving by the end of the walk. Next time we’ll take some food and we’ll be able to climb up a bit higher. The scenery there is fantastic - I was wishing I had a digital camera so that I could take some photos. Next time maybe.

Afterwards my friend and I went to a nearby cafe and sat there for a few hours, eating and chatting. It was the perfect day for sitting outside and enjoying a coffee. It’s days like that when I wish I didn’t have to work, and I could spend a lazy weekend sitting outside and not worrying about getting up early on Monday. *sigh* Now I just have to come up with an idea to make us rich, and we can retire young and happy.

M and I went to the races at Murray Bridge today. We took my car, and it’s the first time I’ve used cruise control. Honestly, how cool is cruise control! At first it was like when you were little and you used to ride your bike down a hill without your feet on the pedals, and you’d go flying down going “whee!”, but then I got used to it and it was just cool. It was nice not to have to have my foot in the one position on the accelerator.

M’s niece had a couple of horses racing today, which is why we went. They didn’t win, but they still did well. I don’t like horse racing much - it makes me sad to see the jockeys hitting the horses :’( But other than that I had a good time. I’ve never been a huge horse fan, but seeing all those horses with the muscles rippling under their skin - they really are beautiful animals.

Everyone loves a good meme, right? What, you don’t? Oh. Well, bad luck! Since I haven’t done one for a while, I bring to you (courtesy of Dida)…

Today we went to Mitre 10 Mega. Yes, it really does have the word ‘mega’ in its name. Mitre 10 is a hardware store here, and M10M is, as you’ve probably guessed, a much-bigger-than-usual Mitre 10 store. Whether it really earns the title of ‘mega’ I’m not sure, but it is quite big, and has lots of stuff. It certainly seemed quite big when I was walking around trying to find a toilet. Note to self: make sure you know where the facilities are before you really need to use them.

It’s been quite weird weather-wise today (gotta love that alliteration). It was sunny, then a bit overcast, then pissing down with rain, and then sunny again. The good thing is that my car got a nice wash (although it’s dried now and looks dusty and yucky again). M10M has an underground carpark, and I must say that my car, all purple and glistening with the raindrops on it, looked pretty damn cool! Mmmm. :)

It’s 2005 (for some of us, anyway) already! M and I had a great night last night, and we’re both feeling a touch under the weather today, but nothing too bad. We went to the Casino - the restaurants and cafes there all had a different theme, and the restaurant we went to was done up in the Bollywood theme, with an Indian buffet and all drinks. I love Indian food.

They had people dressed up as The Kumars, walking around and chatting to the guests, and on one trip to the buffet I got accosted by the grandmother, who proceeded to load my plate up, telling me that I have to produce 10 children one day and so I have to be fed up well.

I was indeed fed up well - I was absolutely stuffed by the end, and the amount of wine we drank ensured that I was feeling happily fuzzy. We stayed there until about 12:15, then walked down to the River Torrens, which is right nearby. It was beautiful weather outside - it had been 35°C (95°F) during the day, and it had cooled down to just the right temperature by midnight. I guess the alcohol had numbed me a bit, so if it had been cold I might not have noticed!

Then we caught the bus home - it was free transport until dawn, so who can say no to that? We couldn’t be bothered waiting in line for a taxi. Catching the bus meant that we had to put up with loud drunk teenagers, but it wasn’t too bad. When we got home I just flaked on the bed - I didn’t bother taking off my makeup or earrings, I was buggered! My stomach was hurting and I felt the urgent need to lie down. I got up at around 11 today, and am not feeling too bad.

Anyway, I hope all of you had (or are having) a great NYE, and that 2005 brings you everything you hope it will :)
