August 2004

I don’t really have anything to blog about but, hey, when has that ever stopped me? So.

My holidays are almost over :( Back to work on Monday - that will be both depressing and difficult. I’ve developed a habit of staying up until 1:30 or 2:00, and getting up at around 11. So waking up on Monday will be yucky.

I bought some Nestlé Coconut Eclair chocolate the other day. Yeah I know it’s Nestlé, and therefore inferior, but I was hoping it would taste like Bounty. It didn’t. They’ve got a new chocolate recipe with Ecuadorian cocoa or something, but I don’t like it much. Cadbury till the end, baby!!

Ummm yeah. So my day’s been pretty slow! I need a pointless meme to indulge in.

Anyway, enough about me. What’s happening with you?

I got this from Rich. I’m tempted to try to see how bad it can get, since I got such a boring result! Oh, I just saw all the possible results. I guess I don’t have to try to be evil after all.

Today, M and I went to Monarto Zoological Park. We saw a guy from work there - what are the odds! Well, pretty high apparently. Anyway, we had a really good time! We went on a Safari bus tour, and saw lots of cool animals (I sound like I’m 5 and reciting what we did on a school excursion!). I took photos with my phone, but it was pretty hopeless unless the animals were really close to the bus. Fortunately, sometimes they were, but there are plenty of photos that if I looked at them in a few days, I wouldn’t have a clue what I took a photo of. I might post them anyway, just so they’re there (and you can guess what the animals are!), but there were a couple of good ones that I’ll put in this entry. So if you want to look, click below! :)

I was reading the Merriam-Webster online dictionary (as you do), and I found a list of 2004’s Top 10 Favourite Words (the link has links to the definitions). They are as follows:

1. defenestration
2. serendipity
3. onomatopoeia
4. discombobulate
5. plethora
6. callipygian
7. juxtapose
8. persnickety
9. kerfuffle
10. flibbertigibbet

I like number 8 the best. I don’t like number 3 at all - it has absolutely no fluidity to it at all, and I find it’s not a very pleasant word to say.

The reason I was reading it was because I wanted to post about something, and I looked up the title I wanted to use to make sure that it meant what I thought it did. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite (although I’m sure it’s used in that context), so I couldn’t use it. D’oh.

Can any of you interpret dreams? I’ve had a recurring dream for a while now, and I’m wondering what it means. I dream that I’m walking across a road, and I see that a car is coming, and know I’ll have to hurry up to cross the road in time. So I start to run the rest of the way, but even though my feet are moving, it feels like I’m not going anywhere, and I always make it to the other side just in time, usually sort of crawling up onto the kerb.

I have another one, too, which is similar, except this time I’m trying to run away from someone, and I’m running as fast as I can but not really getting anywhere. Sometimes, to try to get away faster, instead of running, I’m hovering parallel to the footpath and a few inches above it, and using my hands to sort of pull myself along. If there’s a fence along the footpath, I pull myself along using the fence. They’re quite bizarre dreams, and I don’t have them every night, but often enough for me to wonder. Does anyone have any ideas?

I took these pictures today of the sunset from our balcony. Again, the quality’s not that good because they were taken with my phone camera, but still - there are pretty colours!

OK, so I’ve been going a bit crazy with the phone camera over the last few days. M and I went for a walk in Morialta Conservation Park today, and I took a few photos. I know, once you’ve seen one hill, you’ve seen them all, but I thought I’d post a couple of photos of the view. Unfortunately we didn’t see any koalas, otherwise I would have taken a picture of it.

mmm bbq
And now I present tonight’s dinner - sausages on bread with onion and tomato sauce (yeah I know I put a bit too much sauce on the one on the right!). My absolute favourite bbq food. Yum!!

I was having trouble logging in yesterday, so I couldn’t post my latest photos. But everything seems ok again.

Yesterday, M and I went to Glenelg, which is a very popular beachside suburb. We went to Pantai, which is a very nice Thai/Malay Café. There’s a Festival of Food thing on at the moment, where certain restaurants participate, and offer a 2 or 3-course meal for a reduced price. So we thought we’d give it a go! It was lovely down there. The food was great, and afterwards we went for a walk around the beach and Jetty Rd. I must have the photo bug at the moment, because I took some more photos. Not as many as when I was at Victor Harbor, but still, if you’d like to have a look, click the link in the sidebar, or go here.

Two shops I particularly liked on Jetty Rd were Haighs (mmm chocolate - none of this Hershey’s bullshit!) and the Apple centre (can’t remember exactly what it’s called!). I finally got to see an iPod mini in person, although everything was behind glass so I couldn’t actually hold it. Still, when I’ve saved up enough money I think I’ll get an iPod of some description. I’m not sure whether I want the iPod mini, or the 4G iPod, which has the same clickwheel that the mini has, and I think it looks nicer than the original iPods. So much to buy, so little money!

After Glenelg we went to M’s dad’s place to try to fix a leaking tap. We were there for ages, but unfortunately no luck. We’ll have to get a plumber to go around and fix it.

The cat that lives there looked pretty sick - he was barely moving, and had encrusted dirt around his mouth. I got a paper towel and tried to clean him up a bit and give him some water, but he didn’t make any move to drink any. We found out today that he died :( Poor thing.

For the first time since I’ve known him, M doesn’t have a picture of a naked woman as his desktop wallpaper. It’s now a BMW… probably has the same effect for him :)
