Something I think is really bizarre is on tv (particulary on soaps), whenever anyone’s going to the airport to fly somewhere, or flying in from somewhere, noone ever sees them off or goes to meet them. When I was growing up, flying somewhere was a ‘big thing’, so whenever anyone flew somewhere, my whole (immediate) family went to see them off and say have a good time etc, and when they came back, we’d all be there to meet them and ask if they did actually have a good time.
But on tv it’s like, ‘ok honey, I’m off to the airport now, I’ll be back on Sunday.’ And the partner says ‘ok, see you then, bye’, and that’s that. Huh? Is that the norm, or is it just because going to an airport doesn’t make for interesting tv? I just find it really weird. It’s just unfathomable to me to let M get a taxi to the airport instead of me taking him, and similarly, I want to meet him when he comes back. Even if he had to fly for business a lot, it would still be weird to me if I didn’t see him off and meet him when he came back.
