June 2004

Omarosa’s gone! Woohoo! Stupid whining woman. At least now she can go to a hospital to be treated for her ‘concussion’.

I drove M’s car for the first time today. It’s the first manual car I’ve driven since I learnt to drive a manual. It feels a lot different to my car (well derr!), but it was good.

Today M rang up about a car that we saw advertised online, but it had been sold on Saturday. I wasn’t too bothered by it, as I can’t really imagine myself driving an AU Falcon. Plus, I really don’t want an automatic car - I like driving manuals.

Well, almost time to kiss another weekend goodbye. I’m looking forward to taking a week off (and probably two) around the beginning of August. Only 4 or so weeks to go.

I’m on holidays from TAFE at the end of this week, too. For the first time since the beginning of the year I’m actually glad to be having a bit of a break - I don’t know why, but for the last couple of weeks it’s been really difficult to get myself to go. Of course, I’d never not rock up just because I couldn’t be stuffed (sorry for the double negative) - I’m too much of a goody-goody for that unfortunately. But I’ve really had to make myself go. It’s bizarre, because I’m really enjoying the course, and the people there are fine, so it’s not because of any of that. I really don’t know why it is. Maybe it has something to do with it being winter now, all I want to do at the end of the day is just go home, not sit in a classroom for 3 hours trying to remember the paltry amount of sign language I know. Hopefully I’ll be more motivated next term.

Thankyou to Nick, who sent me one of his Gmail invitations. If you want to send me an email there, I’ve put a link in the sidebar. Ummm, yeah, that’s all.

There is a totally cool sunset happening now - a band of dark orange along the horizon, gradually lightening into a dirty blue, which then darkens into a gorgeous, deep blue. And the lights on the plains are slowly coming on, too.

I love the view from my study.

I had a good day today - M and I drove to Hahndorf, where we had lunch at the Hahndorf Inn. We went to the German Arms, but it was booked out… again. We’ve tried going there 3 times for lunch, but each time it has been booked out. Oh well, we had schnitzel and it was super yummy!

We wandered around for a little while, but not too long because it was really cold. However, we stayed long enough to go into the sweet shop and buy a few things, including spuds. I love spuds!!

Afterwards we went to see my parents, and then did a little bit of car hunting. It’s a shame that most car yards have high fences now, since it meant we couldn’t have much of a look at the cars. Maybe next Saturday.

Later on in the day, I was getting into the car, and must have knocked my finger in exactly the wrong way, because the nail on my pinkie finger folded all the way back to under the white part and stayed there, so I had to unfold it. Umm… OOOWWWWWW!! It wasn’t so bad at the time I did it, but pretty soon after it started stinging quite a lot, and bleeding a bit under the nail. So now it hurts to type ‘a’s. Why is ‘a’ such a common letter! M;ybe I’ll h;ve to st;rt repl;cing them with something else… see, th;t w;s much e;sier to type. Except I actually had to remember to put a ‘;’ instead of an ‘a’. So, in reality, it wasn’t really that much easier at all. Less painful though. Ow.

I am just sooo glad that I never have to do an exam again. I did a semester course at Adelaide Uni a couple of years ago, and at the beginning of the course, the lecturer wasn’t sure whether the exam was going to be open-book or closed-book. The thought of studying for an exam and going to Centennial Hall to sit in that huge room of people again made me feel physically sick. Thank goodness it was an open-book exam that we could do at home.

But anyway, I’m just so glad that now when someone mentions June and November, I don’t automatically think of exams.

I haven’t been able to wear my glasses for the last week or so because the frames were coming loose on one side, and I didn’t want the screw to come out (yeah yeah I had a screw loose… ha ha). It was really annoying, because every day at work I’d almost go to put them on, and then realise I couldn’t because they needed to be fixed.

I don’t need to wear my glasses all the time, but they certainly help when I’m using the computer. Anyway, I finally remembered to get a jeweller’s screwdriver, and tightened the screw, so I could wear them today. But when I put them on, they just felt weird. I must have got used to not wearing them, because it felt like I had a pair of huge novelty glasses sitting on my nose. In the end I just took them off.

We’ve got a leak in our roof :( Well, it’s either that, or the horizontal rain that we experienced the other day got into a vent, and then seeped through the ceiling. Either way, what started out as a small spot of seeping water last night escalated into bubbling paint and more drips by the time we got up today. So M decided to drill some holes into the ceiling to let the water out, and hopefully prevent any more damage. There was obviously a lot of water trapped in the ceiling, because a steady stream of water came out for a few minutes after the first hole was drilled. M drilled another hole where it seemed water was gathering, and soon we had two steady streams of water. It was sort of cool to watch in a what-a-bugger kind of way. Our own little rain inside! Anyway, hopefully insurance will cover some of it; we’ll investigate tomorrow.

I bought some shoes to replace my rattly work ones. On the one hand, I’m pleased I got them because they look cool, and it’ll be good to wear new shoes. On the other, they’re FM boots, and I don’t know whether I really want to wear them to work every day. I guess I’ll get used to them. And I’ve got some long skirts that I now have shoes to wear with, so that’s good.

Today started off with a fab breakfast at Henley Square. I had pancakes with maple syrup, cream and strawberries, and two hot chocolates. Yum! My list of places that serve good hot chocolate is getting longer, which is a relief - for a while I thought that they were few and far between.

After breakfast, Matthew and I went to Harbourtown, in the hope of finding a beanie, and some new work shoes. We couldn’t find the beanie anywhere, and didn’t find any shoes either. I tried on some Diana Ferrari boots, which looked really nice on the display, and were made of a really cool stretchy material, but they looked crap on - they seemed to double the length of my foot. Maybe I’m just not used to that style. I was really disappointed - I was getting quite attached to the material! Oh well, off to town tomorrow to find some.

The good part of the trip is that I ended up with a new handbag. I’m really pleased with it - it has a mobile phone pocket which my phone fits into perfectly, and a couple of pen holders, as well as a few separate compartments. It was fun loading all my old stuff into it!

We didn’t stay there very long, because it was bloody freezing! And it was raining intermittently, so it wasn’t very pleasant being outside. If they’d covered it over, they’d have a lot more people going there in poorer weather.
