I had a bowl of cereal at work before going to TAFE today. I was fine until the break, when I was a bit peckish, but thought I’d wait till I got home. By the time I got home, I was STAARVING! We didn’t have any decent (ie junk) food either, so I made myself one and a half honey sandwiches and a cup of hot chocolate with two vanilla marshmallows. Now that’s living!

My best friend from uni is coming over today. She was a bridesmaid in my wedding, and I haven’t seen her since then, since she’s currently doing a postdoc in the Netherlands. I’m really looking forward to seeing her, and meeting her partner. The four of us are going out for dinner, if we can find anywhere that’s open!

While I was browsing one of my regular PDA haunts I found something that might be useful to the PDA owners out there who might be considering travelling (and even if you’re not, it’s cool to have!). It’s called Metro, and it ‘computes the shortest route between two subway stations in more than 250 cities around the world’. This would have been useful when I went to Sydney! It also has directions to tourist attractions in some cities. It’s free, and you only put the cities you’re interested on your PDA, so it hardly takes up any room. Anyway, end of plug.

Are we still doing the Weblogger Meetups, or are we just sorting out our own now? I got an email from them today regarding ‘new features’ they’ve added, and it made me wonder whether we’re doing them any more.

This is something that I’ve noticed while I’m eating Coco Pops. I’ll be eating and eating, never seeming to make a dent in the number of Coco Pops in the bowl, then I’ll look down and all of a sudden there are about a dozen Coco Pops floating in the milk! How does the number always drop so rapidly without me noticing? Bizarre.

On another note, we have ADSL at last! Much downloading of large, clean (:)) files was done to celebrate. It’s nice to be able to download a 2Mb user guide in a few seconds rather than a few minutes.

My PDA is going well. There was a scare this morning when it seemed that the battery hadn’t charged properly overnight, but I think it was just a dodgy connection. I’ll wait and see how it goes tonight. How’s that for a thought that absolutely noone except me cares about!

Coffee is good. And so is hot chocolate.

The talk is now over and done with - yay! It was ok. 11 people came, which was more than I expected, given the numbers for the last few talks, but it was definitely manageable. Fortunately I didn’t get that constricted feeling in my chest, but I could hear myself talking quite quickly (a few people mentioned this on the evaluation form). Whatever - it’s over now and hopefully I won’t have to do another one!

In devastating news, I put a tiny scratch on my PDA today >:| GRRRRR! Time for a screen protector. You can’t really see it unless you’re specifically looking for it, but I was immensely pissed off all the same. If I get a new model sometime, I’ll make sure to put a protector on it first thing!

I have to give a presentation tomorrow :( Everyone in the company has to do one, about whatever we want, as long as it’s relevant to our field.

I am really bad at public speaking. My chest goes really tight, as if I’ve forgotten to take a breath. In 12 hours, I’ll be up there talking. Waaaaa! I’ve practised it a few times tonight, and I’ve got a bit better each time I think, so hopefully it won’t be too bad. I just can’t wait till the stupid thing’s over and done with.

I’m proud to announce the newest member of my family…

Matthew and I went to the zoo yesterday. I can’t remember the last time I went, it was at least 3 years ago and probably a few more. I wasn’t looking forward to seeing the tiger/lion cages, because they used to be so bare, and it made me sad to see the poor things in such a horrible home, but they’ve been improved since the last time I saw them. They’ve got grass there, and it just looks a whole lot nicer. Unfortunately I only got to see one tiger, the rest were hiding :(
We saw the lion cubs too - they’re so cute! One of them took a shine to its mother’s tail, and chomped down on it, being semi-dragged while the lioness walked along, before being shaken off.

Today we went to a family bbq at Matthew’s sister’s place. That was nice too, although it was a lot warmer today than I was expecting it to be. Still, we were undercover so it was fine. He has a large family, and even though only a fraction of them were there, there were still a lot of people! There definitely aren’t nearly that many on my side. I’m pleased I married into a large family

On the way home we went to Marden KFC - yumbly!

I bought a new wallet today. I was really embarrassed by my old one - it was absolutely enormous, crammed full of receipts, old business cards, and all sorts of other junk. I hated going shopping with it, and be trying for about 20 seconds to get it out of my bag, but failing because it was too big to get out of the opening.

So I decided that today would be the day I got a smaller wallet. Overall, I am quite pleased with my purchase. It is definitely smaller, and at the moment it’s about 1/3 the size of my previous one, so I can easily transfer it to/from my bag as required.

The difficult thing was making myself sort through all the crap I’ve got, and only put the essentials in it. The good thing is that it’s small so I can’t put a whole lot of crap in there, but the bad thing is that it’s small so I can’t put all the stuff I need in there!

I mean, there’s so much essential stuff! Any guys reading this will probably be rolling their eyes, thinking that all I need in there is some cash and a credit card. But I just cannot reduce it any further than this:

  • cash (not that that takes up much room at the moment)
  • credit card
  • medicare card
  • private health care card
  • super scheme card
  • driver’s licence
  • RAA card
  • frequent flyer card
  • tafe student card
  • one or two sentimental things (yes, it is essential!)

I’m sure there’s other stuff that I can’t remember off the top of my head…

I really need all that stuff! And it takes up a lot of room. But still, what I’ve got now is infinitely better than what I had.
