ain't life grand!

The last 5 days have been excellent. I really think that M and/or I should come up with an idea to make us squillions of dollars so we can retire, and I can spend every beautiful day sitting outside on the deck with a cup of coffee in one hand and a sandwich in the other. Working until you’re 60 is a load of bollocks. I could quite happily spend my days sitting outside listening to cars travelling to and from their destinations, and the sound of children outside at the school near us. Then I could go inside and potter around on the program I’m trying to write (which is pissing me off because the documentation for the IDE is rubbish), and sit outside again for a while to calm myself back down. Aaaahhh.

Unfortunately that bubble has burst and I’m back at work tomorrow. Boo. And I’ve got an assessment at tafe tomorrow night. Double boo. And one on Wednesday night! Triple boo.

The next thing to look forward to is the trip to NYC in November. The flights were booked a few weeks ago and today M registered to have my flight upgraded to business class from NYC to Sydney. We don’t find out until 24 hours beforehand whether the upgrade was awarded, so there’s a possibility I’ll be stuck in economy again while he boozes and snoozes it up in business. Quadruple boo.

I had a fantastic day today. As I mentioned yesterday, M and I were planning to go to Victor Harbor today. When we woke up it was foggy and pouring with rain, but we’d heard it was going to fine up, so we went anyway. It cleared into an absolutely beautiful day, and it wasn’t even too windy or cold!

It took us a bit over an hour to get there, and we were just in time for lunch, so we got some fish and chips and ate it in the park. As soon as we started eating, a couple of hopeful seagulls strolled over, but we thought we’d wait until we were finished before we gave them anything. Lucky we did - as soon as we threw a chip over, a huge flock of screeching birds honed in on our area. They have absolutely no shame. As soon as you move your hand to throw the food, they’re flying in the air trying to catch it before it hits the ground and possibly goes to someone else. And while they were waiting for the next tidbit, they hovered at face-height, about 1/2 a metre away. It was somewhat intimidating - I was worried they were going to go for me! I wish I’d got a photo of it.

Afterwards, we walked across the causeway to Granite Island, where we walked all around. I took lots of pictures with my phone, and I’ll post them when I’ve got them all ready, so you can check them out if you’re interested. Considering they were taken with a mobile phone camera, they’re not too bad, but please don’t expect anything of particularly good quality!

We even saw a penguin! We were walking along, and M had a look in a burrow, and saw a little penguin nestled in there. I took a couple of pictures of it, and fortunately one of them turned out well enough to recognise that there actually was something there.

Some of the pictures didn’t work out, such as the ones which had little boards explaining bits of the island, but I think I’ll post them anyway. Oh well, I learnt something I didn’t know before - Granite Island used to be joined to the mainland. So there you are!

We walked back along the causeway (where I took a couple of pictures of the horse-drawn tram), had a coffee, and then headed home. All in all I had a fabulous time.

I’m hoping to go to Monarto during the holidays, too, if there’s another nice day.

I went down to Semaphore with Matthew today because he had a hair appointment. While he was having his hair cut, I went for a walk down near the beach. It just so happened that there was a kite-flying thing on today, so I got to see lots of people flying their cool-looking kites.

There were some rides there (mostly for kids), and they had hot cinnamon donuts too and dagwood dogs etc - just like the show! I love hot cinnamon donuts, and had to restrain myself from buying a couple.

It’s a shame that it was so hot today, and that I didn’t have a hat or any sunscreen on, or I would have taken more of a look around.

After the haircut, we had lunch at Cafe Primo. It was nice enough, but the back part opens into the gaming area of the Semaphore Hotel, so that area was quite smoky-smelling. No wonder noone was sitting down there. So we sat outside and watched people walk past while we ate our lunch. All in all a very nice time!

Well here I am at my new home at weblogs.us! I’m looking forward to getting to know MT, and generally having a good ol’ play. First step will be to make the page look a little more interesting. Unlike my old site, I don’t have to stuff around trying to get features like calendars and previous entries etc working, since they’re automatically here. But it was kinda fun doing that stuff…

I wish every day were as beautiful as this one. I had a lovely day - wandered around town with Matthew, looking for a substitute birthday present for him - the thing I got him had to be returned because it didn’t work :( He’s narrowing down the ideas, so hopefully I’ll be able to get something soon. I also looked at some PDAs (yes, I’m going through another PDA phase), trying to decide which one I want. I almost bought one on ebay last night, but thought it would be better to wait until I’d done more research over what I wanted. *sigh* I want my gadgets NOW!!!
