During the period where our cats were using the laundry floor as their toilet, things didn’t seem to be improving so I followed Mandy’s suggestion and put the litter box in the corner where they were going, and it seemed to solve the problem. Bingo! I was thinking yesterday that it had worked quite well, because there hadn’t been any other incidents in almost a month. That’ll teach me for not controlling my thoughts a little better.
Last night I was upstairs websurfing, and M was downstairs watching tv. He buzzed me on the phone upstairs, and said that the cats had found a new place to go to the toilet. I tentatively asked where, and he said “the toilet”. Wow! I was really impressed that they actually used the toilet for its intended purpose (although that generally doesn’t include use by animals), until he clarified that he actually meant the toilet area, and not the toilet itself. We have a toilet adjoining the laundry, and since their usual corner in the laundry was now unavailable, they decided that they’d use the corresponding corner in the toilet.
Conveniently, M was about to leave to go to play badminton, so I was left with the happy task of cleaning it up. I came downstairs to survey the damage. It trickled from the corner of the toilet area, out the door and halfway across the laundry floor. I started wiping it all up, and then looked behind the toilet door (which is near a corner) to check there wasn’t any there, only to find a huge pool accumulated. Ugh.
So now the toilet door is permanently shut, as is the door to the bathroom nearby, just in case they get any ideas.

Are the cats happy? I thought they only did things like that to show their annoyance at something. My cat peed on my bed when I moved out of my mom’s house to start college. Maybe they need an animal therapist, lol

Dawn: We usually get a couple of brands, and there’s been no problem with either of them until recently. It’s really weird.
Fash: I hope they’re happy - we treat them well, honest! I can’t think of any reason why they wouldn’t be. Maybe they’re just sick of having to share

I have a similar problem, Jenny. My cat pees and poops in the shower. No matter how clean his litter box is or what lengths I’ve gone to to clean the shower, etc., it doesn’t stop him. Atleast it’s all contained in one place…

what naughty little kitties! do you think it’s both of them doing it?

Yaya: Really? Our showers have doors on them, so fortunately they can’t get in there. That wouldn’t be a very nice surprise in the morning!
Nicole: I don’t know! There was an awful lot there, so surely it was a case of either them both doing it, or one did it more than once. The amount that was there couldn’t have been from one go!

Friends of ours had trouble with that clumping stuff because their kitten ate it. They didn’t realise until they noticed that she hadn’t been to the toilet in a couple of days.

they must be having a good laugh watching you guys. Insidious creatures, those cats.

Oh no! so you solved one problem and now they find a new spot arghhh. All I can suggest now is keep the doors shut (as you are doing) and if they find a new spot, block that too. Maybe they’ll just give up in the end and realise that the only toilet that stays put is their OWN toilet. As you know one of our cats did this for quite some time, I just used to block off the area’s she did it, one by one, and now she’s only using the proper place. Good luck!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Toni: The poor thing! We use the crystals, and as far as we know they haven’t eaten any.
Steph: I bet they are, the little bastards.
Mandy: Hopefully they will! It’s annoying having to remember to keep all the doors shut though, but if you slip up, then there may be a nasty surprise waiting
Merry Christmas to you too
