My car’s stuffed again so I’m stuck at home until someone comes to have a look at it. So what better thing to do than blog I say.
Yesterday I did some baking. We had a packet of M&M’s bits (the kind you bake into stuff) in the cupboard, so I decided to make the recipe for chocolate chip cookies that was on the pack.
OK, so here’s what the packet said the biscuits should look like…
And here’s how they actually turned out…
Ummm… yyyeeaahhhh. It’s just as well I told you which was the photo of the ones on the packet, right? :/ I tell myself that what’s important is how they taste. Unfortunately they’re a bit average, so I lost on all counts. But there are stacks of choc chips, so the cookie bit is really only there to hold the choc chips together I think. That’s my kind of choc chip cookie!

That’s really weird- a few days ago when I was hanging out at my friend’s apartment, we stopped off at the grocery store and bought a package of m&m chocolate chip cookies! They were a bit too sweet, even for me- i think I prefer either regular choco chip, or just m&m cookies, but the 2 together is too much. And things never look like they do in the pictures- think about fast food (which i don’t eat often). The burgers on the commercial look pretty good, but when you actually go to McDonalds, it looks all smashed, soggy, and the ‘meat’ is grey!

I’m reading this in the wee hours and now I’m laughing out loud…
Thank you.

Gee, looks like you’d have to wait until the bikkies are nearly cooked & then carefully place the m&ms into the dough!
Of course, you’d also have to have the majority with the “m” facing out of the cookies… for promotional purposes!

Hey, they didn’t turn out that bad at all. It’s been a long time since I made cookies, hmm maybe you’ve given me some inspiration! lol

Fash: That’s very true. Maybe I should go into business selling them, and on the ad have the packet photo, and when people buy one, give them the ‘real life’ one. I’m sure they wouldn’t mind!
Gary: I’m glad you think my serious cooking attempts are amusing
Pete: That is my plan for next time, if I make them again. I doubt I will though, given the results this time round. But maybe I should, just to see if I can make them even slightly resemble the photo on the packet.
Mandy: That’s nice of you to say, but yes they did! Total disaster aesthetically speaking, but they’re edible
Jessica: Go forth and bake! It was really nice having the house smell of cookies, especially now that the weather’s getting colder here - it just warms up the house and makes it feel more ‘homey’ to me.
JaG: I hope your cookies turn out better than mine, although that wouldn’t be hard!

While M&M’s don’t melt in your hand, they do melt in the oven

Damn straight they do! And lose all their colour as well

Aww! They indeed dont look like the picture on the packet but anyway it’s always like that! It can never be just like in the picture because they make the product look so perfect!

I used to love chocolate chip cookies, but then one night I ate a whole bag of nasty chips ahoy cookies (let’s just say, I had a case of the munchies!) and then got really sick the next day…I had a stomach bug but now associate chocolate chip cookies with puking…:(

Excellent cookies. The more chips in there the better! (hope they were soft cookies).

Miss Qt: That’s true - I don’t feel so inadequate now
Nicole: I hate it when you get sick after eating something and then can’t eat that food any more. I once went to an ice cream shop and had a really nice ice cream, but got sick the same night (I don’t think it was because of the ice cream), and now the thought of going to that shop makes me feel queasy
Rich: That’s what I say! Although in this case there were actually too many I think. They weren’t nice and chewy like some are, but they weren’t crisp either. I love chewy biscuits! :d

I don’t think anyones cookies ever turn out like the picture on the packet…I know mine never have, but if you close your eyes and throttle your taste buds, they taste just as nice

Those look delicious.

Kunaal: Yep, all you need is a bit of imagination
Johnnie: How you said that with a straight face I have no idea!

lol! It looks like your M&Ms melted sometime during the baking process…THEY’RE NOT SUPPOSED TO MELT! You should sue.

Yeah what’s the deal with those M&M cookies? I think they use fake cookies made out of clay and place the M&M’s in them just for the photos!
btw, thanks for the condolences you posted in my blog about my kitty dying.

oh m and m bits in cookies? sounds all good… and i think your effort was very impressive, far more like biscuits than anything i could ever come up with so you are to be commended!

See, I see your work as the subdued version of the original. I’m sure it taste exactly the same. I does look yummy!

Dawn: I know! Totally unlike Choc Bits which are meant to keep their shape during cooking. What a disaster. Maybe I’ll just try normal chocolate chips next time, if I’m brave enough to try again that is.
Coffeedog: I think you’re right! And you’re welcome, I know how awful it is to lose a pet.
JR: Yeah, my car’s sort of ok. They couldn’t find anything wrong with it (again), so they haven’t actually fixed anything (again), so I’ll just have to wait until the next time it dies.
Missfee: Thanks! I did try, but next time I’m half-baking the biscuits and then poking in the M&M’s as they’ve obviously done in the picture!
Groove: Subdued you reckon? I thought of it more as an embarrassing version of the original
