I put a new picture up the top - you may remember it from such posts as the one where I posted the view from my backyard (I was going to look up what the post was called, but to be honest I couldn’t be stuffed). Well, the one I put there didn’t have the bird in it, but I thought it added a certain je ne sais quoi, so the bird is in.
For the past couple of days I’ve been working at our other office, finishing off stuff on the project I’m working on. It’s been over 2 years since I’ve been there, and today I thought I’d go a different way, just to make driving for 45 minutes slightly more interesting. I figured that since I vaguely remembered the way, I’d find my way there with no problems. Of course, I sailed past the street I was meant to turn down, while thinking, “hey that looks familiar, I’m pretty sure I had to turn down there”. Which, of course, I did, so I had to backtrack and go a rather roundabout way. It was kind of nostalgic though because when M and I started going out we were working at that office, so driving out there reminded me of that. Aaah those were the days.
The office I’m working in is quite small, has 6-8 people crammed into it, no windows and a large number of computers. Suffice to say it’s pretty noisy - noisy enough that a guy was in there today with a dB meter (I can’t remember what they’re actually called) measuring the noise level. Apparently the standards for noise in a computer room is 55-60 dB (or something like that), the volume at which you can potentially suffer permanent hearing loss is around 75 dB, and the volume at which you must wear ear protection is around 85 dB.
The guy walked around the room, measuring the sound level in different locations. My location was 61 dB, another person’s was 66, and another’s 76, so I have the pick of the room, even though there aren’t any areas that are within the recommended noise level. Considering there are still more computers to come, something will have to be done about the noise. It’s lucky I’m learning Auslan - it may come in handier than I first thought.

Okay, I haven’t been by for the last couple of days, so the change in template is new to me. I like this one better than the last(not to say the last one did not have little ‘je ne sais quoi’ of its own) As for the noisy computers, I don’t think I would have lasted long with noises at those levels….but then I am fussy in this area

Why the hell is it so noisy? Just how old are these computers, anyway?

Yeah why is it noisy? I don’t get it? 75db is way too high!
LOVES the new look btw!

All computers make that humming sound- a sound so soothing, and also so irritating.

Kunaal: That’s ok, you can say you didn’t like the other one
Dawn: Thanks! Sorry, I should have been more clear. Auslan is Australian Sign Language.
Steph: Because there is an absolute crapload of computers in there! They’re brand spanking new, but noisy new instead of quiet new
Groove: It sure it - I think they’re trying to figure out a way to make it better, particularly for when the other computers come in. And I’m glad you like the look
Jon: Yes, but these aren’t any ordinary computers, they’re mutants!
