I’m finding WordPress to be so much better than Movable Type for comment moderation - pretty much all the comments I’m trying to filter out have been filtered and don’t make it to my blog, so that’s better than all the obscene ones I was getting with MT which actually did show up. The only bummer was that when I was getting rid of the auto-generated crappy comments, I inadvertently deleted a legitimate comment. Grrr. Thank goodness I get email notification of all comments, because I just used the info in the notification email to create a new record in the database, and hey presto - the comment was back! I have to be more careful when deleting comments though. I’ve deleted over 150 today - not impressed!
At least the process with WordPress is relatively painless - with MT I had to delete one comment at a time, and then rebuild the whole site afterwards - what a waste of time.

Everyone is getting slammed with spam comments lately. That SUCKS. Why do spammers bother? I’m hard-pressed to believe that anyone buys any of the shit they’re selling anyway…

I’ve never gotten one either. 150 is a lot!!!

I haven’t really ever gotten offensive comments, just a few spammies, which irritate me to no end, but that’s it. Sorry it is such a hassle for you.

Rich: I’m assuming it’s to do with which publishing software you use - do you use PMachine (I think that’s what it’s called?) like Andy? He said he’s never had any problems either, and he thinks it’s because not as many people use PMachine as MT and WP, so the spammers just target the software that the majority of people use.
Dawn: It’s a huge pain. At least with WordPress there is comment moderation. I didn’t have that with MT, so sometimes I’d have to spend a couple of hours (literally), deleting often obscene comments one at a time. It drove me crazy!
JaG: I think HaloScan people are safe, it’s just people who use WP or MT or ones like that who are having problems. I think.
Jessica: Yes, I meant the spam comments - a lot of them were X-rated, and unfortunately I’m not into any of the stuff they were advertising

Oh well, I’m with WP now and I don’t really have any major complaints. If you keep telling people how good PMachine is, everyone will switch over and the spammers will target you after all!

I got ONE doggy comment when I first started my new blog, about how I looked nonetheless! *shakes head* Some people just lead pathetic lives….

Well, aren’t I special….no unruly comments for me…but then I do not think what I have said so far has been really controversial….hmmmmm it may be time to change that

Re: Dawn
From my (very) limited understanding, the spam is not so much about getting you to go and buy/use their products, rather it is about increasing page ranks. Or so I have been led to believe.

That is pretty pathetic, Heather. Ah well, what can you do except shake your head in wonder
I’m talking about the bot-generated comments, Kunaal, not the human-generated ones. Since it doesn’t seem that HaloScan is affected, I think you’re pretty safe.
I didn’t know that, Sam!

I wouldn’t take my word for it Jenny. For it’s possible that my word may be spurious and ill-informed, but that is what I have read. Makes sense though, because would anyone in their right mind buy/use products from a company that thinks spamming is an ethical business practice?

Sam: I trust your word!
Cat: HELLO! How are you? I hope everything’s going well
MM: Sorry, I just dribble shit most of the time. The point was, I put the comment back!
QM:
JaG: Sorry again
I was just annoyed that I deleted it by mistake, and pleased that it was restored!
