Well, we cracked open the tamarillo and had a munch (that sounds like a euphemism). It tasted… weird. I don’t know how to describe it. In case you don’t know, one way to eat it is like a kiwi fruit - just cut it in half and scoop out the flesh. So that’s what we did.
It smells a bit like a kiwi fruit, and initially it tasted a bit like one, too, but then it had a tart quality to it and didn’t really taste like a kiwi fruit at all. It doesn’t have the nice refreshing taste that kiwi fruit has. So we sprinkled some sugar on it (as the website suggested), and ate it like that. It didn’t taste much different to me - not really any sweeter.
Anyway, I can now say that I’ve eaten one, and I probably won’t be rushing back to try another. I think it might be the kind of fruit that tastes strange by itself, but really good when it’s combined with something else. The site said that you can add sliced tamarillo to sandwiches - those zany New Zealanders!

I’d never heard of this fruit myself, but I’m not rushing anywhere to try it. The way you discribe it I’d rather have kiwi fruit. Or mango!! Hmmmm….

I thought that when I wrote this that I’d probably put a whole lot of people off trying it… go and try it! It’s only my opinion after all - you might like it

At least we can say that we’ve had them, Brechi, and offer an informed opinion if we’re ever asked
I love love love mangoes, Killy :d So nice and creamy and yummy. Definitely better than tamarilloes.
