I’m proud to announce the newest member of my family…
…my Sony Clie SJ30, courtesy of eBay, purchased for the bargain price of $65. The model’s about a year and a half old, but I’m really pleased with it.
You may recall from previous posts that I was hanging out for a new PDA, but couldn’t afford the one I was after just yet. So I was browsing around eBay, hoping to pick up something cheap to tide me over until I had some money, and until I could get one of the yet-to be released (rumoured to be in a bit over a week) new models a bit cheaper. I came across the Clie in a 1-day auction with 40 mins to go by total fluke, and thought it looked cool. I read some reviews before bidding, to see what other people thought of it, and ended up buying it. It’s fantastic!! Even though it’s an old model, it is just sooo much better than my m500. It’s in really good condition too. The brightness icon doesn’t work though
And I thought the beaming didn’t work either, but I had success with that after all. Matthew suggested a hard reset to see if that fixes the icon problem, but I spent so long putting stuff on it that I don’t want to start again! I’m sure I’ll do it though, because if I don’t I’ll be wondering whether the hard reset would have fixed it. Grrr.
It has the same processor and OS as my m500, but has twice the memory, and a colour, hi-res screen. Mmmmm hi-res screen. That, if nothing else, will keep me happy for a while. It’s just so nice and crisp and easy to read! It really is luxury compared with what I had.
I took a crappy picture of it with my webcam, so instead of putting that up, here’s one I borrowed from one of the many reviews I read:

Nice choice & a darn good price. Got to be happy about that!
I’d be forever lost without my palm. I thought it was an extravagent expense, but it’s woven it way into my life to never be replaced, only upgraded.
Hard resets are a bugger. Though if you synchronise before & after the reset, it should stay completely up to date without losing anything you’ve loaded!

neighbours…
Earlier tonight I went up the hill to see my neighbours, mostly to say hello, but also to invite them to the party and let them know that the Jim’s Mowing man is coming tomorrow to attack the terrible morning…

Thanks Pete
What I was worried about with the hard reset is not all the datebook and contacts stuff, I know that that will still be there, but all the other software (ok, mainly games
) that I’ve loaded onto it - I couldn’t be bothered redoing it all!
What Palm do you have?

My palm is the Tungsten T. I bought a couple of months after it came out & it’s around $300 cheaper & two models down the chain. That said, it does everything I’ve wanted it to do & I see no reason to upgrade to a newer model.
All your games should be safe with the reset (even your high scores!!). A hard reset can sometimes get you around the security of trial programs which are disabled after so many uses!
While I’m here, Cat! Check your manual to find the hard reset procedure, the Palm requires the user to be ambidextrous in button pressing!! I imagine there are various methods for all models & brands!

Well of course noone *needs* the newer models, do they? I was drooling over the T|T for a long time, then the T2. Then, of course, the T3. I wasn’t intending to get a Clie, but the opportunity was too good to pass up.
I thought that a hard reset got rid of everything? It’d be so annoying if it did, and the damn icon still didn’t work!
